The fall season is full of many splendors, and as we approach the beginning of autumn, farmers markets are bountiful with pumpkins, mums and apples of all varieties. A few of southeast Michigan’s farmers markets will remain open until the end of next month, and feature seasonal festivities along the way.
Farmington Farmers Market, open through Saturday, Nov. 7, will host several special market days, including Harvest Day on September 19 and The Haunted Market on October 31.
In addition to Saturday markets, the market is open Tuesday evenings from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. through September 30. You’ll find seasonal fresh fruits and veggies and artisanal goods.
New Baltimore Farmers Market of Macomb County remains open through Sunday, Oct. 25. Enjoy yoga in the park through the end of September, as well as other special event days.
September 27 is Kids and Family Day, followed by a Harvest Festival Market on October 18 (complete with pumpkin carving demonstrations and live music). Don’t miss the last day of the season, as October 25 is the Vendor Blow Out Market with special sales!
Canton Farmers Market, open through Sunday, October 18, offers everything from local produce to handcrafted goods. Special events this season include a perennial plant exchange on September 20, and a special pre-Thanksgiving harvest market on November 22.
While you’re there, keep your eyes peeled for cooking demonstrations and unusual finds like gourmet dog treats.
Wilson Barn of Livonia holds its farmers market through Saturday, October 10, complete with fruit, veggies, homemade baked goods and more. For the fall season, you can also enjoy Pumpkin Fest, a special series at the barn that runs Saturday, Sept. 26 through Friday, Oct. 30.
On weekends, Pumpkin Fest activities include pony rides and hayrides, as well as fresh apple cider, doughnuts and hot dogs available for purchase.
Greenfield Village’s annual open-air seasonal market, held on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 3, and Milford Farmers Market, open through Thursday, Oct. 15, are two additional ones in the area to visit.
